西红花种球，植物名番红花，为鸢尾科植物番红花 Crocus sativus L.的球茎部分，多年生草本。球茎扁圆，具多个芽眼，外有黄褐色的膜质包被。叶基部丛生、无柄，叶数13张左右，叶较狭，窄长线形，有1条灰白色叶脉，叶缘稍反卷。花顶生，花瓣6片，长约4厘米，宽约1.6厘米，蓝紫色；雄蕊3枚，黄色，雌蕊3枚，上部深红色、下部淡黄色，长3厘米左右，柱头顶端略膨大、3裂，呈喇叭形，有香味。

Saffron corm, botanically known as Crocus sativus L., is the corm (underground stem) of the saffron plant, a perennial herbaceous species in the Iridaceae family. The corm is flattened and round, bearing multiple buds and covered by a membranous, yellowish-brown tunic. Leaves are basal, sessile, numbering around 13 per plant; they are narrow, linear, and longer, with a single grayish-white midvein and slightly recurved margins. Flowers are borne singly at the top of the shoot, with 6 petals approximately 4 cm long and 1.6 cm wide, colored bluish-purple. There are 3 yellow stamens and 3 pistils, with the upper portion deep red and the lower portion pale yellow, measuring about 3 cm in length. The stigma is slightly enlarged at the tip, trifurcated (three-lobed), funnel-shaped, and fragrant.
